The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) on Thursday presented its prestigious Member of the Year Award to Nancy Gemskie, vice chairman of Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA). Gemskie accepted her award during FMEA's annual conference in Amelia Island, FL.Each year, FMEA honors one member in Florida who through their actions and achievements presents themselves as a mentor and role model in their local community as well as in the statewide utility industry.Gemskie joined the KUA board in October 2000 and has served as director, assistant secretary and vice chairman. A retired insurance executive, Gemskie is the first female to serve on the board in the utility's 103-year history.FMEA is the trade association for Florida's family of 32 public power communities located across the state, from cities as varied as Jacksonville, Orlando, Lakeland, Tallahassee and Gainesville to smaller towns such as Havana, Clewiston and Bushnell. KUA Honored with Three Statewide PR Awards
Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) on Tuesday evening took home three awards in the Florida Public Relations Association's (FPRA) annual awards for the best public relations programs and tactics in the state.The industry association honored KUA's 2004 calendar of energy conservation with a judges' award and a Golden Image Award, FPRA's highest category recognition. KUA's 2002 annual report received an award of distinction. "As a Golden Image Award winner, KUA has again been recognized by its peers in the public relations industry to have met the highest standards of performance," said Chris Gent, KUA's manager of corporate communications. "We are extremely proud of our ongoing efforts to educate our customers."KUA's calendar is part of an ongoing effort to increase public awareness of energy conservation.
